Clindamycin divisible tablets

Oral tablet (Comp.o.)

Composition by tablet:

– Zodon 88 mg: Clindamycin (hydrochloride) 88 mg.

– Zodon 264 mg: Clindamycin (hydrochloride) 264 mg.

Pharmacological properties

Bacteriostatic antibiotic that belongs to the group of lincosamides, with in vitro action against Gram aerobic cocci ( ), Gram anaerobic bacilli (-) and clostridia.

After oral administration it is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract.

Interactions and incompatibilities

Neuromuscular blocking agents: Clindamycin may increase neuromuscular blockade.

Do not administer together with erythromycin or other macrolides.

Cyclosporine: Clindamycin can reduce plasma levels of this drug with risk of lack of efficacy.

Simultaneous use with aminoglycosides (eg gentamicin) may cause acute renal failure.

Indications

Dogs:

– Treatment of infected wounds, abscesses and dental and oral cavity infections caused by or associated with Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp. (except Streptococcus faecalis), Bacteroides spp., F. necrophorum and C. perfringens.

– Treatment of superficial pyoderma associated with Staphylococcus pseudintermedius.

– Treatment of osteomyelitis caused by S. aureus.

Contraindications

Do not use in hamsters, guinea pigs, rabbits, chinchillas, horses, or ruminants, since ingestion of clindamycin may cause serious gastrointestinal disturbances.

Do not use in case of hypersensitivity to clindamycin, lincomycin or any of the excipients.

Adverse reactions

Vomiting and/or diarrhea.

It can favor the proliferation of non-sensitive organisms such as clostridia and yeasts. In case of secondary infection, appropriate measures should be taken taking into account the clinical condition.

Route of administration

Orally.

The tablets are flavored. They can be administered directly into the animal's mouth or added to a small amount of food.

Posology

Dogs: 11 mg/kg/24 hours or 5,5 mg/kg/12 hours for 7 to 10 days.

If no clinical response is seen in 4 days, reconsider the diagnosis.

Superficial pyoderma: It is recommended to maintain the treatment for 21 days, which can be extended according to clinical criteria.

Osteomyelitis treatment: 11 mg/kg/12 hours for a minimum period of 28 days.

If no clinical response is seen within 14 days, discontinue treatment and reconsider the diagnosis.

Special precautions

In case of administration of high doses or during prolonged treatments of one month or more, periodic analyzes of liver and kidney functions and blood counts should be performed.

In animals with severe kidney and/or liver problems accompanied by severe metabolic disturbances, the dose to be administered must be carefully determined and their conditions must be monitored by appropriate blood tests during treatment.

The use of the drug in nursing puppies is not recommended.

Clindamycin can cross the placenta and the blood-milk barrier. As a consequence, treatment of lactating females can cause diarrhea in puppies.
