Ceftiofur crystalline free acid corresponding to ceftiofur 100 mg.
Pharmacological properties
Pharmacological properties: Ceftiofur is a third-generation cephalosporin, active against
Gram (+) and Gram (-) pathogens. Ceftiofur inhibits the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall, which
confers bactericidal properties.
Ceftiofur is active against the following disease-causing target pathogens
respiratory and other diseases in pigs: Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae, Pasteurella
multocida, Haemophilus parasuis y Streptococcus suis, Bordetella bronchiseptica is intrinsically
ceftiofur resistant in vitro.
Approximately 60% and 15% of the dose is excreted in the urine and feces, respectively,
during the 10 days following its administration.

Indications and target species
Porcine: For the treatment of respiratory bacterial diseases, associated with:
Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae, Pasteurella multocida, Haemophilus parasuis y Streptococcus suis.
Treatment of sepsis, polyarthritis, or polyserositis associated with infections by Streptococcus
am.
Contraindications
Do not administer in case of hypersensitivity to ceftiofur or other beta-lactam antibiotics.
efectos secundarios
• Occasionally transient local inflammation may be observed after intramuscular injection.
• Mild tissue reactions have been observed at the injection site, such as small areas
(less than 6 cm2) or discolorations and small cysts up to 42 days after injection. The
resolution has been observed 56 days post-injection.
Route of administration
Intramuscular.
Posology
5 mg ceftiofur/kg body weight (equivalent to 1 ml Naxcel per 20 kg body weight) administered in
a single dose intramuscularly in the neck. Shake the bottle vigorously for 30
seconds, or until visually all particles have been resuspended.
• Weight must be accurately determined to ensure correct dosing and avoid
underdosing. It is recommended to limit the injection volume to a maximum of 4 ml.
Special precautions
• The product should be used based on susceptibility testing and considering policies
local antimicrobials.
• Penicillins and cephalosporins may cause hypersensitivity after injection, inhalation,
ingestion or skin contact. There may be cross-hypersensitivity between cephalosporins and
penicillins, and vice versa. Allergic reactions to these substances can occasionally be
serious.
• Do not handle this product if you are known to be hypersensitive.
