Composition: per tablet:
Contralac 5: Metergoline 0,50 mg.
Contralac 20: Metergoline 2 mg.
Pharmacological properties:
A synthetic derivative of ergoline, metergoline is an antiprolactin agent whose activity is mainly based on the antagonism it exerts against serotonin, the substance responsible for prolactin secretion.
Interactions and incompatibilities:
Interactions with L-dopaminergic substances have been described.
Indications and target species:
Bitches: Suppression of lactation and other manifestations of pseudopregnancy.
Suppression of unwanted postpartum lactation.
Side effects:
• Mild intensity vomiting or diarrhea may occur at the start of treatment, which does not justify its interruption and disappears quickly.
• Signs of excitement and hyperactivity have also been described.
Route of administration:
Orally.
Posology:
Bitches: 0,20 mg of metergoline/kg bw/day, divided into 2 doses, equivalent to 1 tablet. (Contralac 5)/5 kg bw morning and afternoon or 1 tablet. (Contralac 20) /20 kg of bw morning and afternoon.
• For small bitches, the following Contralac 5 usage pattern is recommended:
From 2,5 to 3 kg: 1 tablet/bitch/day.
From 3,5 to 6 kg: 1 tablet/dog, morning and evening.
From 6,5 to 8 kg: 2 tablets/bitch in the morning and 1 tablet/bitch in the afternoon.
• For bitches weighing more than 8 kg: Use Contralac 20 divisible tablets.

Conservation mode:
Keep protected from light, in a cool and dry place.
