Composition per gram:

• Oxytetracycline hydrochloride: 55 mg
• Excipients:
  • Methyl P-hydroxybenzoate: 1,7 mg
  • Propyl P-hydroxybenzoate: 0,6 mg

Pharmacological Properties

Terramycin is a bacteriostatic antibiotic belonging to the tetracycline group, produced by Streptomyces rimosus . It inhibits bacterial protein biosynthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit, preventing the attachment of transfer RNA to messenger RNA.

• Spread spectrum: It acts against Gram (+) and Gram (-) bacteria, protozoa, Mycoplasma spp., leptospiras, rickettsias and chlamydia.
• Local and systemic action: Administered orally, it acts in the intestine and is distributed to tissues such as the lung, liver and kidney after absorption.
• Excretion: Eliminated in urine and feces; high concentrations are reached in urine between 2–8 hours after administration.

Indications and Target Species

Bovine (pre-ruminant) and Ovine (pre-ruminant):

• Respiratory diseases associated with Pasteurella multocida y Mannheimia haemolytica.

Porcine:

• Respiratory diseases caused by Mycoplasma spp. y Bordetella bronchiseptica.

Poultry (broilers and turkeys):

• Respiratory infections caused mainly by Mycoplasma spp. y Pasteurella multocida.

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to tetracyclines.
• Animals with liver or kidney disorders.
• Do not administer to equines.
• Do not administer to cattle and sheep with a functional rumen.

Adverse reactions

• Superinfection of the intestinal flora (resistant fungi).
• Cutaneous photosensitivity.
• Occasional digestive problems.

Route of Administration

Oral, dissolved in drinking water.

Posology

Bovine (pre-ruminant, 60 kg):

• 20–25 mg oxytetracycline/kg bw/day for 5 days.

Sheep (pre-ruminant, 14 kg):

• 10–18 mg oxytetracycline/kg bw/day for 5 days.

Pork (100 kg):

• 40 mg of oxytetracycline/kg of body weight/day for 5 days.

Poultry (broilers and turkeys):

• 50 mg of oxytetracycline/kg of body weight/day for 5 days.

Dosage per litre of drinking water:
Adjust concentration according to water consumption: 5%, 7.5%, or 10% of live weight.

Special Precautions

• Safe handling: Wear gloves and avoid contact with skin and eyes.
• Do not administer together with bactericidal antibiotics or in diets with high levels of Ca, Fe, Mg or Al.
• Protect from heat and light.

Wait time

• Meat:
  • Bovine (pre-ruminant): 4 days.
  • Sheep (pre-ruminant): 21 days.
  • Pigs: 4 days.
  • Birds: 21 days.
• Eggs: Do not administer to birds whose eggs are intended for human consumption.

Conservation Mode

• Store at a temperature below 25 °C in a dry place protected from light.
