Honey bees: control of varroasis produced by Varroa destructor.

Special precautions for use in animals
Use the strips for a single treatment. Never reuse the strips since having
decreased the amount of active substance its effectiveness would be much less, contributing to the
emergence of resistance and increasing the risk of transmission of infectious diseases
associated with varroa from diseased hives to healthy hives.
Special precautions to be taken by the person administering the medicinal product to
animals
Avoid contact with eyes, skin or mucous membranes.
Wear gloves during handling.
Do not smoke, eat or drink while handling.
Wash hands with soap and water after using the product.
In case of accidental contact with eyes, wash with plenty of water.

Shot: Two strips per hive.
How to use:
APISTAN strips are assembled together in the course of their manufacture. will suffice with
separate them and introduce them between the squares of the body of the hive, keeping them
vertical through its built-in suspension system.

The strips should be suspended in a central position between the brood frames.
In Dadant-type hives (10 squares), place a strip between squares 3 and 4 and another between squares
pictures 7 and 8 of the body of the hive. In Layens type hives, place the strips in the
center of hive body, spaced 3-4 squares apart.
In all cases, it must be ensured that the strips are in contact with the breeding frames.
The strips must remain in the hive for a period of not less than 6 weeks or
greater than 8 weeks. Leaving the strips hanging indefinitely in the hive does not contribute to
increase the efficacy of the treatment and, on the other hand, can induce the appearance of resistance to
depleting the active substance as time goes by.
Treatment can be started at any time of the year without affecting the quality of any
honey harvest. However, the best results are obtained when treating in spring, before
of the first honeydews, or in autumn, after the honey has been collected and there being little brood in the
hive. In general, except in cases of serious reinfestation, a single treatment per year usually
be enough.
It is advisable to treat all the hives of the same settlement in the same period of
time in order to avoid reinfestations due to drift and looting between nearby apiaries.

5.1 Pharmacodynamic properties
Tau-fluvalinate is an ectoparasiticide of the class of cyanopyrethroids that act
causing a rapid depolarization of the axonal membranes. The molecule has very low
toxicity to bees lacking specific receptors. However, in the parasite
Varroa destructor, absorption of the molecule is rapid and death is due to
hyperexcitability and nervous exhaustion.
5.2 Pharmacokinetic data
Tau-fluvanilate acts by contact. The plastic matrix of the strips guarantees a release
constant and sustained use of the acaricide that eliminates the mites attached to the bees as well as the
eggs laid in brood cells. Bees pick up minute amounts of the substance
activated by contact with the plastic strips and transmitted to other bees by
social interaction within the hive, so that the entire colony receives protection. He
system ensures the existence of constant levels of the active substance during
8 weeks.

Shelf-life after first opening the immediate package: all strips in the package must be
used immediately and cannot be stored again.

Keep the strips in the original packaging. Keep the bag tightly closed in order to
protect the strips from light. Do not store together with pesticides or other chemicals that
could contaminate the product.

used or, where appropriate, the residues derived from its use
Any unused veterinary medicinal product or residues derived from it must be
disposed of in accordance with local regulations.
Fluvalinate is dangerous for fish and other aquatic organisms, so they should not be
contaminate lakes or watercourses with the strips or empty containers.
