Pharmacological properties
General characteristics: Broad-spectrum endectocide belonging to the family of
milbemycins.
Pharmacodynamic characteristics: Action against adult and immature gastrointestinal nematodes
and adult respiratory tract nematodes.
Pharmacokinetic characteristics: Moxidectin is absorbed, reaching maximum
blood concentrations 9 hours after treatment. The drug is distributed throughout
tissues of the organism, the target tissue being fat, where concentrations are reached 10-20
times higher than those observed in other tissues. The depletion half-life in fat is
23-28 days. Moxidectin undergoes biotransformation in the body by limited by
hydroxylation. The only significant route of excretion is the feces.
Interactions and incompatibilities
None known.
Indications and target species
Sheep: Gastrointestinal nematodosis and pulmonary nematodosis.
Treatment and prevention of infections caused by adult gastrointestinal nematodes and
immature (including certain parasites resistant to benzimidazoles), adult nematodes of the
respiratory tract.
Contraindications
None known.

Route of administration
Orally.
Posology
Sheep: 1 ml/5 kg bw (equivalent to 200 µg of moxidectin/kg live weight).
• Persistent activity of: 5 weeks against reinfestations by Ostertagia circumcincta and
Haemonchus contortus; 4 weeks against Oesophagostomum columbianum.
• Moxidectin is effective against strains of Haemonchus contortus, Ostertagia circumcincta,
Trichostrongylus colubriformis and Cooperia curticei resistant to benzimidazoles.
Special precautions
• Standard warnings of good veterinary practice are appropriate.
• Avoid direct contact with skin and eyes.
• Wash hands after use.
Wait time
Meat: 14 days.
Milk: 5 days.
