PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES

Treatment of pseudopregnancy in bitches and suppression of lactation in them.

INDICATIONS AND TARGET SPECIES

Bitches: Separation of pups immediately after delivery, early weaning, fetal death and abortion at the end of gestation, lactation after ovariohysterectomy, circumstances that can give rise to undesirable consequences such as mammary engorgement and mastitis if treatment is not administered. to inhibit lactation.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

Do not administer to pregnant females.

SIDE EFFECTS

The only possible side effects are drowsiness, anorexia, and vomiting. They are rare, transitory and moderate. Vomiting can usually occur only after the first administration. In this case, the treatment should not be interrupted, since this symptom will not appear with the next administrations.

ROUTE OF ADMINISTRATION

It should be administered orally directly into the animal's mouth or mixed with food.

POSOLOGY

Bitches: 0,1 ml/kg bw (5 µg of cabergoline/kg) once a day for 4-6 consecutive days depending on the severity of the clinical picture.

• For small breeds or animals weighing less than 5 kg, it is advisable to administer the dose in drops: 0,1 ml of solution equivalent to 3 drops.

• In case of relapse the animals can be treated again according to the previously indicated dose.

PRESERVATION MODE

Store at a temperature below 25 °C and out of the reach of children.

OBSERVATIONS

In case of overdose, vomiting may occur. This effect can be antagonized by parenteral administration of an antidopaminergic agent such as metoclopramide.
