Pharmacotherapeutic group: Prolactin inhibitors, ATCvet code QG02CB03.
Cabergoline (new ergoline derivative) has a hypoprolactinemia effect.

Cabergoline inhibits prolactin secretion in rats under different conditions
experimental. The peak of prolactin inhibition, after a single oral dose, is
it reaches 4-8 hours and persists for several days, depending on the dose administered.
The hypoprolactinemia effect of cabergoline lasts longer than that of the others.
ergoline derivatives.
Cabergoline also inhibits lactation, which is a prolactin-dependent process.
When administered orally to lactating rats, rabbits and bitches for 4 days
established after farrowing, significantly reduces the body weight of the litter, with
an ED50 (the dose that reduces weight gain in newborns by 50%) of 29, 15,0, and
1,50 mcg/kg/day, respectively.
Cabergoline acts directly on the anterior pituitary, stimulating receptors
dopamine inhibitors. Its long-lasting hypoprolactinemia effect can be attributed to the
at least in part, to the persistence of the compound in the pituitary gland.
Cabergoline has no other effects on the endocrine system and has central effects.
little or none.
In anesthetized dogs, it produces a slight decrease in blood pressure without affecting the
heart rate.
Like the other ergoline derivatives, cabergoline can induce emesis in the
dogs, but in an experimental study the ED50 for emesis was about 15 times
greater than ED50 to inhibit lactation in bitches.
