XEDEN 150 mg tablets treat urinary tract infections in dogs, including lower urinary tract infections (with or without prostatitis) and upper urinary tract infections caused by Escherichia coli or Proteus mirabilis. It also treats superficial and deep pyoderma.
The active ingredient enrofloxacin is a synthetic fluoroquinolone antibiotic with concentration-dependent bactericidal activity. It is effective against most Gram-negative bacteria, especially Enterobacteriaceae such as Escherichia coli, Klebsiella spp., Proteus spp., and Enterobacter spp. Susceptibility of Pseudomonas aeruginosa varies. Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus intermedius are usually susceptible.
Dogs receive 5 mg of enrofloxacin per kg of body weight once daily. The tablets are flavored and well accepted by animals. They can be given directly into the mouth or mixed with food.
