Enrofloxacin is a synthetic fluoroquinolone antibiotic with concentration dependent bactericidal activity. It is active against most Gram negative bacteria, especially Enterobacteriaceae such as Escherichia coli, Klebsiella spp., Proteus spp., and Enterobacter spp. Susceptibility of Pseudomonas aeruginosa is variable. Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus intermedius are usually susceptible.
Dogs receive 5 mg enrofloxacin per kg body weight once daily for 5 to 10 consecutive days. Cats receive 5 mg enrofloxacin per kg body weight once daily for 5 to 10 consecutive days.
