Effective fluoroquinolone antibiotic for feline upper respiratory tract infections.
XEDEN 15 mg tablets treat upper respiratory tract infections in cats. The active ingredient is enrofloxacin, a synthetic fluoroquinolone antibiotic with concentration dependent bactericidal activity. It shows good activity against most Gram negative bacteria, especially Enterobacteriaceae such as Escherichia coli, Klebsiella spp., Proteus spp., and Enterobacter spp., which are generally susceptible. Susceptibility of Pseudomonas aeruginosa is variable, while Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus intermedius are usually susceptible.
Enrofloxacin works by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase, leading to bacterial cell death. The product is available in divisible tablets for oral administration. Tablets are flavored and well accepted by animals, and can be given directly into the mouth or mixed with food.
The standard dose for cats is 5 mg of enrofloxacin per kg of body weight once daily for 5 to 10 consecutive days. Treatment duration should follow veterinary guidance.
Each tablet contains enrofloxacin 15 mg.
For cats: treatment of upper respiratory tract infections. For dogs: treatment of lower urinary tract infections (with or without prostatitis) and upper urinary tract infections caused by Escherichia coli or Proteus mirabilis; treatment of superficial and deep pyoderma.
Cats: 5 mg enrofloxacin per kg body weight once daily for 5 to 10 consecutive days. Dogs: 5 mg enrofloxacin per kg per day once daily. Follow your veterinarian's prescription.
