VIRBAMEC PORCINO is an endectocide antiparasitic injectable solution containing ivermectin 10 mg per ml. It is indicated for the treatment and control of gastrointestinal roundworms (adults and L4), lungworms, lice, and mites in pigs.
Ivermectin blocks nerve impulse transmission by stimulating GABA release at presynaptic nerve endings in nematodes and at neuromuscular junctions in arthropods, causing paralysis and death of the parasites.
A single subcutaneous injection at 0.3 mg ivermectin per kg body weight effectively controls Ascaris suum, Hyostrongylus rubidus, Oesophagostomum spp., Strongyloides ransoni, Metastrongylus spp., Haematopinus suis, Sarcoptes scabiei var. suis, and Trichuris suis. Administered to sows 7 to 14 days before farrowing, it prevents milk transmission of Strongyloides ransoni to piglets.
