VERAFLOX 60mg tablets contain pradofloxacin, a fluoroquinolone antibiotic. It treats wound infections caused by Staphylococcus intermedius group (including S. pseudintermedius), superficial and deep pyoderma, acute urinary tract infections caused by Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus intermedius group, and severe gingival and periodontal tissue infections (as adjunct to mechanical or surgical therapy) caused by anaerobes such as Porphyromonas spp. and Prevotella spp. in dogs. In cats, it treats acute upper respiratory tract infections caused by Pasteurella multocida, Escherichia coli, and Staphylococcus intermedius group.
Pradofloxacin binds reversibly to bacterial DNA gyrase or DNA topoisomerase IV, selectively inhibiting these enzymes and causing rapid bacterial cell death. The bactericidal effect is concentration-dependent. In dogs, oral absorption is rapid (Tmax 2 hours) and nearly complete (close to 100%), with high tissue penetration. Elimination occurs via glucuronidation and renal excretion, with about 40% excreted unchanged in urine. In cats, oral absorption is rapid, reaching Cmax 1.2 mg/L in 0.5 hours, with glucuronidation as the main elimination route.
VERAFLOX should only be used for authorized indications and according to prudent use recommendations. Do not administer with antacids, sucralfate, multivitamins, or dairy products as absorption may decrease. Do not use with NSAIDs in animals with epilepsy history due to CNS interactions. Avoid use with theophylline or digoxin as plasma levels may increase.
