Pradofloxacin binds reversibly to bacterial DNA gyrase or DNA topoisomerase IV, causing selective inhibition of these enzymes and rapid bacterial cell death. The speed and magnitude of the bactericidal effect are directly proportional to the drug concentration. In dogs, after oral administration, pradofloxacin is absorbed rapidly (Tmax 2 hours) and almost completely (near 100%), with high tissue penetration. Elimination occurs via glucuronidation and renal excretion, with approximately 40% excreted unchanged renally. In cats, after oral administration, pradofloxacin is absorbed rapidly, reaching Cmax 1.2 mg/L in 0.5 hours, with glucuronidation as the main elimination route.
