It is indicated for NYHA class II, III, and IV decompensation caused by chronic degenerative valvular disease or cardiomyopathy. The drug can be used with or without furosemide and cardiac glycosides like digoxin.
Ramipril works by inhibiting the angiotensin converting enzyme, reducing vasoconstriction and fluid retention. This lowers cardiac workload and improves clinical signs such as fatigue, cough, and ascites. In dogs treated with both Vasotop and furosemide, the diuretic dose can be reduced while maintaining the same effect.
