Reduces diuretic dose when used with furosemide for congestive heart failure in dogs.
VASOTOP PALATABLE 2.5mg tablets are indicated for the treatment of congestive heart failure in dogs classified as NYHA class II, III, and IV. This condition results from chronic degenerative valvular disease (endocarditis) or cardiomyopathy. The product can be used with or without additional therapy including furosemide and cardiac glycosides such as digoxin or methyldigoxin.
Ramipril, the active substance, is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor. It works by blocking the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II, reducing vasoconstriction and aldosterone secretion. This lowers blood pressure and decreases the workload on the heart, improving cardiac output and clinical signs.
In clinical use, dogs treated simultaneously with Vasotop P and furosemide may require a lower dose of the diuretic to achieve the same effect. Efficacy is supported by improvement in exercise tolerance and reduction in clinical signs such as fatigue, shortness of breath, and cough.
Each tablet contains 2.5 mg of ramipril as the active substance. Excipients include yellow iron oxide (E 172) 0.5 mg.
For dogs: treatment of congestive heart failure (NYHA class II, III, and IV) caused by chronic degenerative valvular disease (endocarditis) or cardiomyopathy. May be used with or without furosemide and/or cardiac glycosides.
