Terramicina LA is a bacteriostatic antibiotic indicated for the treatment of respiratory diseases associated with Pasteurella multocida, Mannheimia haemolytica, Histophilus somni, and Mycoplasma bovis in cattle; metritis and enteric infections caused by Arcanobacterium pyogenes and Escherichia coli. In pigs, it treats respiratory infections linked to Pasteurella multocida, Haemophilus parasuis, Bordetella bronchiseptica, Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae, and Mycoplasma spp, as well as metritis. In sheep and goats, it is used for respiratory disease, enzootic abortion, metritis, and listeriosis.
Oxytetracycline dihydrate inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding irreversibly to the 30S ribosomal subunit. This blocks the addition of amino acids to the growing peptide chain, stopping protein production in susceptible microorganisms. The drug is eliminated via urine and feces.
A single injection provides therapeutic concentrations for approximately 48 hours in pigs and 48 to 72 hours in other target species.
