SYNULOX 50mg tablets treat infections in small dogs and cats caused by susceptible germs. These infections include those in the digestive tract, respiratory tract, urogenital tract, skin, and soft tissues. It also treats bacterial infections susceptible to amoxicillin when required by the disease.
The combination of amoxicillin and clavulanic acid expands the antibacterial spectrum. Amoxicillin is a semisynthetic penicillin that inhibits transpeptidase and carboxypeptidase enzymes. This prevents bacterial cell wall synthesis and causes osmotic imbalance, destroying bacteria in the growth phase. Clavulanic acid inhibits beta lactamases progressively and irreversibly, forming a stable molecule enzyme complex. This prevents the amoxicillin beta lactam ring from being broken and losing activity.
Do not administer with bacteriostatic anti infectives. Contraindications include animals with a history of allergy to beta lactam antibacterials. Do not give to rabbits, guinea pigs, or hamsters. Side effects range from mild urticaria to anaphylactic shock, mild gastrointestinal symptoms, superinfections after prolonged use, and occasional blood dyscrasias or colitis.
Each tablet contains amoxicillin (trihydrate) 40 mg and clavulanic acid (potassium clavulanate) 10 mg.
