It treats and prevents flea infestations (Ctenocephalides spp.), eliminating adults, eggs, and larvae. It also treats adult intestinal roundworms (Toxocara spp.), ear mites (Otodectes cynotis), chewing lice, and prevents heartworm disease (Dirofilaria immitis).
Selamectin, a semisynthetic avermectin, paralyzes and kills parasites by interfering with chloride channel conductivity, disrupting normal neurotransmission. This inhibits electrical activity in nematode nerve cells and arthropod muscle cells, leading to paralysis and death.
After topical application, selamectin absorbs through the skin, distributes systemically, and remains detectable in plasma for 30 days after a single 6 mg/kg dose. This persistence provides effective concentrations throughout the 30 day dosing interval.
Each 0.25 ml pipette contains 15 mg of selamectin.
