STRONGHOLD 15 mg solution for spot-on administration treats and prevents flea infestations (Ctenocephalides spp.) in cats and dogs weighing 2.5 kg or less. It eliminates adult fleas, eggs, and larvae, and helps control flea allergy dermatitis. It also treats adult intestinal roundworms (Toxocara spp.), prevents heartworm disease (Dirofilaria immitis), treats chewing lice (Felicola subrostratus in cats, Trichodectes canis in dogs), ear mites (Otodectes cynotis), hookworms (Ancylostoma tubaeforme in cats), and sarcoptic mange (Sarcoptes scabiei in dogs).
Selamectin, a semisynthetic avermectin, paralyzes and kills parasites by interfering with chloride channel conductivity, disrupting normal neurotransmission. This inhibits electrical activity in nematode nerve cells and arthropod muscle cells, causing paralysis and death.
After topical application, selamectin is absorbed through the skin and distributed systemically. It is slowly eliminated from plasma, with detectable concentrations persisting for 30 days after a single dose of 6 mg/kg. This systemic persistence provides effective concentrations throughout the 30 day dosing interval.
Each pipette contains 0.25 ml of solution with 15 mg of selamectin.
