STRONGHOLD PERRO 240 mg is an antiparasitic solution for spot-on application. It treats and prevents flea infestations caused by Ctenocephalides spp., eliminating adult fleas, eggs, and larvae. It also treats adult roundworms (Toxocara canis), chewing lice (Trichodectes canis), ear mites (Otodectes cynotis), and sarcoptic mange (Sarcoptes scabiei). It prevents heartworm disease caused by Dirofilaria immitis.
Selamectin, a semisynthetic avermectin, paralyzes and kills parasites by interfering with chloride channel conductivity, disrupting normal neurotransmission. This inhibits electrical activity in nerve cells of nematodes and muscle cells of arthropods, leading to paralysis and death.
Selamectin is absorbed through the skin after topical application. It distributes systemically and is slowly eliminated from plasma, with detectable concentrations in dogs 30 days after a single dose of 6 mg/kg. This systemic persistence provides effective concentrations throughout the 30 day dosing interval.
