This antiparasitic solution for spot-on application treats and prevents flea infestations caused by Ctenocephalides spp. It kills adult fleas, eggs, and larvae. It also treats adult intestinal roundworms (Toxocara canis), prevents heartworm disease (Dirofilaria immitis), treats chewing lice (Trichodectes canis), ear mites (Otodectes cynotis), and sarcoptic mange (Sarcoptes scabiei).
Selamectin, a semisynthetic avermectin, paralyzes and kills a broad range of invertebrate parasites. It interferes with chloride channel conductivity, disrupting normal neurotransmission. This inhibits electrical activity in nerve cells of nematodes and muscle cells of arthropods, causing paralysis and death.
After topical administration, selamectin is absorbed through the skin and distributed systemically. It is slowly eliminated from plasma, with detectable concentrations in dogs 30 days after a single dose of 6 mg/kg. This persistence provides effective levels throughout the 30-day dosing interval.
