RAPIDEXON treats inflammatory and allergic processes in horses, cattle, pigs, dogs, and cats. In cattle, it is also indicated for primary ketosis (acetonemia) and induction of parturition. In horses, it treats arthritis, bursitis, or tenosynovitis.
The active substance is dexamethasone sodium phosphate, a fluoromethyl derivative of prednisolone. It is a potent glucocorticoid with minimal mineralocorticoid activity. Dexamethasone has 10 to 20 times the anti-inflammatory activity of prednisolone. Corticosteroids reduce immune response by inhibiting capillary dilation, leukocyte migration and function, and phagocytosis. Glucocorticoids increase gluconeogenesis.
Single high doses are usually well tolerated, but prolonged administration can cause serious adverse reactions. For medium to long term treatment, doses should be reduced to the minimum needed to control clinical signs. Do not use with vaccines or within two weeks of vaccination, as corticosteroids can reduce immune response.
Each ml contains 2.0 mg dexamethasone (as dexamethasone sodium phosphate) and 15.0 mg benzyl alcohol (E-1519) as excipient.
For horses, cattle, pigs, dogs, and cats: treatment of inflammatory and allergic conditions. In cattle: treatment of primary ketosis (acetonemia) and induction of parturition. In horses: treatment of arthritis, bursitis, or tenosynovitis.
For inflammatory or allergic conditions: Horses, cattle, pigs: 0.06 mg/kg body weight (1.5 ml per 50 kg). Dogs, cats: 0.1 mg/kg body weight (0.5 ml per 10 kg). Doses may be repeated once every 24 to 48 hours if needed. Use different injection sites for repeated doses. For primary ketosis in cattle (acetonemia): 0.02 to 0.04 mg/kg body weight. Follow your veterinarian's prescription.
