PROFENDER is an internal antiparasitic tablet for dogs suffering from or at risk of mixed parasitic infestations. It targets nematodes including Toxocara canis, Toxascaris leonina, Ancylostoma caninum, Uncinaria stenocephala, and Trichuris vulpis, as well as cestodes including Dipylidium caninum, Taenia spp., Echinococcus multilocularis, and Echinococcus granulosus.
Emodepside acts at the neuromuscular junction by stimulating presynaptic receptors of the secretin receptor family, causing paralysis and death of the parasites. Praziquantel is rapidly absorbed from the parasite surface, altering calcium permeability of the parasite membranes, leading to severe tegument damage, contraction, paralysis, metabolic disruption, and death.
A single dose is effective. Administer only on an empty stomach. Very rare side effects include mild transient digestive or neurological disorders. In collies, Shetland sheepdogs, and Australian shepherds with mdr1 gene mutation, neurological signs may be more severe. No specific antidote is known.
Each small dog tablet contains 15 mg praziquantel and 3 mg emodepside. Each medium dog tablet contains 50 mg praziquantel and 10 mg emodepside. Each large dog tablet contains 150 mg praziquantel and 30 mg emodepside.
