PROFENDER is an internal antiparasitic tablet for dogs. It treats mixed infestations caused by nematodes such as Toxocara canis, Toxascaris leonina, Ancylostoma caninum, Uncinaria stenocephala, and Trichuris vulpis, and cestodes including Dipylidium caninum, Taenia spp., Echinococcus multilocularis, and Echinococcus granulosus.
Emodepside acts at the neuromuscular junction by stimulating presynaptic receptors of the secretin receptor family, causing paralysis and death of the parasites. Praziquantel is rapidly absorbed from the parasite surface and alters calcium permeability of the parasite membranes, leading to severe tegument damage, contraction, paralysis, metabolic disruption, and death.
A single oral dose is effective. Administer only on an empty stomach. Do not use in puppies under 12 weeks or under 1 kg body weight. Very rare side effects include mild transient digestive or neurological disorders.
Each tablet contains praziquantel and emodepside: 15 mg praziquantel and 3 mg emodepside for small dogs (3 kg), 50 mg praziquantel and 10 mg emodepside for medium dogs (10 kg), or 150 mg praziquantel and 30 mg emodepside for large dogs (30 kg).
