NOROCLAV 250 mg tablets are an oral antibacterial treatment for dogs. They treat skin infections including superficial and deep pyoderma caused by susceptible staphylococci. They also treat urinary tract infections caused by staphylococci or Escherichia coli, respiratory infections caused by susceptible staphylococci, and enteritis caused by susceptible Escherichia coli.
The mechanism of action combines amoxicillin, a broad spectrum penicillin, with clavulanic acid, a beta lactamase inhibitor. Clavulanic acid protects amoxicillin from degradation by beta lactamase enzymes produced by resistant bacteria. This combination extends the spectrum of activity to include beta lactamase producing strains.
Most cases respond to therapy within 5 to 7 days. Chronic or refractory cases with considerable tissue damage may require a longer duration to allow sufficient tissue repair. The recommended dose is 12.5 mg per kg body weight twice daily.
Each tablet contains 200 mg amoxicillin (as amoxicillin trihydrate) and 50 mg clavulanic acid (as potassium clavulanate Ph. Eur.). Contains carmoisine (E122) as excipient.
