Treats infections caused by Giardia, Clostridium, and other anaerobic bacteria.
METROVIS treats gastrointestinal tract infections caused by Giardia spp. and Clostridium spp. (e.g., C. perfringens or C. difficile) in dogs and cats. It also treats urogenital tract, oral cavity, throat, and skin infections caused by metronidazole-sensitive obligate anaerobic bacteria (e.g., Clostridium spp.).
Metronidazole penetrates bacteria and is reduced by sensitive anaerobic bacteria. The resulting metabolites bind to bacterial DNA, exerting a toxic effect. Metronidazole is bactericidal at concentrations equal to or slightly above the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC).
The recommended dose is 50 mg metronidazole per kg body weight daily for 5 to 7 days. The daily dose can be divided into two administrations (25 mg/kg twice daily). Accurate body weight determination ensures correct dosing.
Each tablet contains 100 mg of metronidazole.
