The recommended dose is 2 mg/kg once daily. Treatment duration varies by condition: skin and soft tissue infections require at least 5 days (up to 40 days), superficial pyoderma 10 days, severe pyoderma 20 days (up to 40 days), lower urinary tract infections at least 10 days (up to 28 days with prostatitis or epididymitis), and respiratory infections at least 7 days (up to 21 days).
At the therapeutic dose, no serious adverse reactions are expected. Mild side effects may include vomiting, diarrhea, polydipsia, polyuria, and hyperactivity, which resolve spontaneously. Rarely, nervous symptoms (ataxia, agitation, aggression, seizures, prostration) and joint pain may occur. Overdose symptoms include salivation, vomiting, weight loss, and decreased activity.
