MARBOCYL PALATABLE 80MG contains marbofloxacin, a fluoroquinolone antibiotic for dogs. It treats infections of the skin (intertrigo, folliculitis, impetigo, furunculosis), soft tissues, upper and lower urinary tract (with or without prostatitis or epididymitis), and respiratory tract caused by susceptible bacterial strains.
Marbofloxacin works by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase, leading to bacterial cell death. It is administered orally at a dose of 2 mg/kg once daily. Treatment duration varies: at least 5 days for skin and soft tissue infections (up to 40 days), 10 to 20 days for pyoderma (up to 40 days), at least 10 days for lower urinary tract infections (up to 28 days for prostatitis, epididymitis, or upper urinary tract infections).
At the recommended therapeutic dose, no serious adverse reactions are expected. Mild reactions such as vomiting, diarrhea, polydipsia, polyuria, and hyperactivity may occur occasionally but resolve spontaneously after treatment. Rarely, nervous symptoms (ataxia, agitation, aggression, convulsions, prostration) and joint pain may appear. Allergic skin reactions due to histamine release have been reported.
