MARBOCYL PALATABLE contains marbofloxacin, a fluoroquinolone antibiotic effective against susceptible bacterial strains. It is indicated for treating skin infections (intertrigo, folliculitis, impetigo, furunculosis), soft tissue infections, urinary tract infections (upper and lower, with or without prostatitis or epididymitis), and respiratory infections in dogs. In cats, it treats skin and soft tissue infections (wounds, abscesses, phlegmons) and upper respiratory infections.
Marbofloxacin works by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, leading to bacterial cell death. It has a broad spectrum of activity against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. The recommended dose is 2 mg/kg once daily, with treatment duration varying by condition: 5 to 40 days for skin infections in dogs, 10 to 28 days for urinary infections, and 7 to 21 days for respiratory infections. In cats, skin infections require 3 to 5 days, and respiratory infections 5 days.
At the therapeutic dose, no serious adverse reactions are expected. Mild side effects such as vomiting, diarrhea, polydipsia, polyuria, and hyperactivity may occur occasionally and resolve spontaneously. Rarely, nervous signs (ataxia, agitation, aggression, seizures, prostration) and joint pain may appear. Allergic skin reactions due to histamine release have been described.

For lower urinary tract infections: minimum 10 days, up to 28 days if prostatitis or epididymitis present. For respiratory infections in dogs: minimum 7 days, up to 21 days. For skin and soft tissue infections in cats: 3 to 5 days. For upper respiratory infections in cats: 5 days.
