MARBOCYL PALATABLE 5MG 100 COMPRIMIDOS is an antibacterial veterinary product containing marbofloxacin, a fluoroquinolone antibiotic. It treats infections caused by susceptible bacterial strains in dogs and cats. Indications include skin infections (intertrigo, folliculitis, impetigo, furunculosis), soft tissue infections, upper and lower urinary tract infections (with or without prostatitis or epididymitis), and respiratory tract infections in dogs. In cats, it treats skin and soft tissue infections (wounds, abscesses, phlegmons) and upper respiratory infections.
Marbofloxacin works by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, leading to bacterial cell death. It has a broad spectrum of activity against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. The recommended dose is 2 mg/kg/day, administered orally once daily.
At the therapeutic dose, no serious adverse reactions are expected. Mild side effects such as vomiting, diarrhea, polydipsia, polyuria, and hyperactivity may occur occasionally but resolve spontaneously. Rarely, nervous symptoms (ataxia, agitation, aggression, seizures, prostration) and joint pain may appear. Allergic skin reactions due to histamine release have been reported as mild and transient.

For dogs: treatment of skin infections, soft tissue infections, urinary tract infections (upper and lower, with or without prostatitis or epididymitis), and respiratory tract infections caused by susceptible strains. Dogs: 2 mg/kg/day (1 tablet per 2.5 kg body weight) once daily. Minimum 5 days for skin and soft tissue infections, up to 40 days. For pyoderma: 10 to 20 days initially, up to 40 days. For lower urinary tract infections: minimum 10 days; up to 28 days with prostatitis, epididymitis, or upper tract infections. For respiratory infections: at least 7 days, up to 21 days. Cats: 2 mg/kg/day once daily. Follow your veterinarian's prescription for duration.
