Treats bovine respiratory infections and swine metritis mastitis agalaxia syndrome.
MARBOCYL 2% 100 ML is an antibacterial injectable solution containing marbofloxacin, a synthetic fluoroquinolone. It acts by inhibiting DNA gyrase, providing a broad spectrum of activity against Gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus, Gram-negative bacteria including Escherichia coli and Pasteurella spp., and Mycoplasma bovis.
After subcutaneous or intramuscular administration at 2 mg/kg in cattle and swine, marbofloxacin is rapidly absorbed with bioavailability near 100%. Peak plasma concentrations of 1.5 µg/ml occur within one hour. The drug binds weakly to plasma proteins and distributes widely, with tissue concentrations in liver, kidney, skin, lung, and uterus exceeding plasma levels.
Marbofloxacin is eliminated slowly in preruminant calves (half-life 5-9 hours) and swine (half-life 8-10 hours), more rapidly in ruminant cattle (half-life 4-7 hours), primarily as active drug in urine and feces.
Each ml contains marbofloxacin 100 mg.
In cattle: treatment of respiratory infections caused by susceptible strains of Pasteurella multocida, Mannheimia haemolytica, and Mycoplasma bovis; treatment of acute mastitis caused by E. coli during lactation. In swine: treatment of metritis mastitis agalaxia syndrome caused by marbofloxacin-susceptible bacteria.
Cattle: 2 mg marbofloxacin per kg body weight (1 ml per 50 kg) once daily by subcutaneous or intramuscular injection for 3 to 5 days. The first injection may also be given intravenously. Swine: 2 mg marbofloxacin per kg (1 ml per 50 kg) once daily by intramuscular injection for 3 days.
