Treats respiratory infections in cattle and metritis-mastitis-agalactia syndrome in sows with rapid absorption.
MARBOCYL 2% is an antibacterial injectable solution containing marbofloxacin, a synthetic fluoroquinolone. It acts by inhibiting DNA gyrase, providing a broad spectrum of activity against Gram-positive bacteria (including Staphylococcus), Gram-negative bacteria (including Escherichia coli and Pasteurella spp.), and mycoplasmas (Mycoplasma bovis).
After subcutaneous or intramuscular administration at the recommended dose of 2 mg/kg in cattle and swine, marbofloxacin is absorbed rapidly and reaches peak plasma concentrations of 1.5 µg/ml within one hour. Bioavailability is nearly 100%. Marbofloxacin binds weakly to plasma proteins (<10% in pigs, <30% in cattle) and distributes widely throughout the body, with tissue concentrations in liver, kidney, skin, lung, and uterus exceeding plasma levels.
Marbofloxacin is eliminated slowly in preruminant calves (half-life 5-9 hours) and pigs (half-life 8-10 hours), and more quickly in ruminant cattle (half-life 4-7 hours). It is excreted mainly in active form in urine and feces.
Each ml contains marbofloxacin 100 mg.
For cattle: treatment of respiratory infections caused by susceptible strains of Pasteurella multocida, Mannheimia (Pasteurella) haemolytica, and Mycoplasma bovis. Also for treatment of acute mastitis caused by E. coli strains sensitive to marbofloxacin during lactation. For sows: treatment of metritis-mastitis-agalactia syndrome caused by bacterial strains sensitive to marbofloxacin.
Cattle: 2 mg marbofloxacin per kg body weight (1 ml per 50 kg) once daily by subcutaneous or intramuscular injection for 3 to 5 days. The first injection may also be given intravenously. Sows: 2 mg marbofloxacin per kg body weight (1 ml per 50 kg) once daily by intramuscular injection for 3 days.
