LACTOVET is an oral solution containing cabergoline, a dopamine agonist that inhibits prolactin secretion. It is indicated for the treatment of pseudopregnancy in bitches and for suppression of lactation. The active ingredient reduces milk production and resolves behavioral signs of false pregnancy.
Administered once daily for 4 to 6 consecutive days, LACTOVET effectively stops milk production after weaning, separation of pups, abortion, or ovariohysterectomy. It prevents undesirable consequences such as mammary congestion and mastitis.
Efficacy data shows that side effects are rare, transient, and moderate. Vomiting may occur only after the first dose and does not require treatment interruption. The product is available in 7 mL and 15 mL presentations.
Each mL contains 50 µg of cabergoline (D.C.I.).
For bitches: suppression of lactation after separation of pups immediately after birth, early weaning, fetal death, abortion at the end of gestation, lactation after ovariohysterectomy, and treatment of pseudopregnancy. 0.1 mL per kg body weight (5 µg cabergoline/kg) once daily for 4 to 6 consecutive days. For small breeds under 5 kg, 0.1 mL equals 3 drops. In case of relapse, repeat the same dosage.
