Suppresses lactation and treats pseudopregnancy in dogs with a simple 4-6 day oral course.
LACTOVET is indicated for the treatment of pseudopregnancy in dogs and for suppression of lactation in bitches. It is used after early weaning, immediate separation of puppies from the mother, fetal death or abortion in late pregnancy, and lactation following ovariohysterectomy. These conditions can lead to undesirable consequences such as mammary congestion and mastitis if lactation is not inhibited.
The active substance is cabergoline, a dopamine agonist that inhibits prolactin secretion, thereby suppressing milk production and resolving pseudopregnancy signs. LACTOVET is administered orally once daily for 4 to 6 consecutive days.
Clinical data show that side effects are rare, transient, and moderate. Possible effects include drowsiness, anorexia, and vomiting. Vomiting may occur only after the first dose and does not require treatment interruption. In case of overdose, vomiting can be antagonized with parenteral metoclopramide.
Active substance: Cabergoline 50 µg per ml. Excipient: Medium chain triglycerides q.s. to 1 ml.
LACTOVET is used for the treatment of pseudopregnancy in dogs and for suppression of lactation in bitches. Indications include separation of puppies immediately after birth, early weaning, fetal death or abortion in late pregnancy, and lactation after ovariohysterectomy.
Administer 0.1 ml per kg body weight (5 mcg cabergoline per kg) once daily for 4 to 6 consecutive days, depending on clinical severity. For dogs under 5 kg, 0.1 ml is equivalent to 3 drops. Give orally directly into the mouth or mixed with food. In case of relapse, repeat the same dose regimen.
