Broad spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic for respiratory and gastrointestinal infections in livestock and pets.
GANADEXIL ENRO 5% is an injectable antibiotic solution containing enrofloxacin, a fluoroquinolone with bactericidal activity. It is indicated for treating respiratory tract infections such as bronchopneumonia, pasteurellosis, and mycoplasmosis in calves, as well as gastrointestinal infections including colibacillosis and colisepticemia. In pigs, it treats diarrhea and enterotoxemia caused by E. coli and Salmonella spp., and MMA syndrome. In dogs, it treats infections of the respiratory, digestive, urinary tract, and skin caused by enrofloxacin sensitive microorganisms.
Enrofloxacin works by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase (topoisomerase II), preventing DNA replication and leading to bacterial cell death. It is active at low concentrations against most Gram negative and many Gram positive bacteria, both aerobic and anaerobic. The antibacterial spectrum includes Staphylococcus spp., Bordetella bronchiseptica, Escherichia coli, Enterobacter spp., Proteus spp., Salmonella spp., Pseudomonas spp., Streptococcus spp., Pasteurella spp., Mycoplasma spp., Enterococcus spp., and Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae.
In cattle, after intramuscular administration of 5 mg/kg, a maximum plasma concentration of 1 µg/ml is reached and maintained for over 6 hours. The volume of distribution is 0.6 L/kg, elimination half life is 2 hours, and clearance is 210 mL/kg/h. Use should be restricted to cases where bacteria are resistant to other antibiotics, and bacteriological confirmation and sensitivity testing are recommended prior to use. If no improvement is seen within three days, alternative therapy should be considered.
Each mL contains enrofloxacin 50 mg and benzyl alcohol 10 mg.
Indicated for calves: respiratory tract infections (bronchopneumonia, pasteurellosis, mycoplasmosis) and gastrointestinal infections (diarrhea caused by colibacilli, colibacillosis, colisepticemia). For pigs: treatment of diarrhea in piglets, diarrhea and enterotoxemia caused by E. coli and Salmonella spp., and MMA syndrome. For dogs: treatment of respiratory, digestive, urinary tract, and skin infections caused by enrofloxacin sensitive microorganisms.
