Ectoparasiticide for topical treatment and prevention of flea and tick infestations.
FRONTLINE 100 ML Spray is an ectoparasiticide for topical use in dogs and cats. It treats and prevents infestations by fleas (Ctenocephalides spp.) and ticks (Ixodes ricinus, Rhipicephalus sanguineus, Rhipicephalus spp., Ixodes scapularis, Dermacentor variabilis). It also controls biting lice (Trichodectes canis in dogs, Felicola subrostratus in cats). The product can be used as part of a strategy for flea allergic dermatitis (FAD).
The active substance is fipronil, a phenylpyrazole insecticide and acaricide. Fipronil inhibits the GABA complex by binding to the chloride channel, blocking chloride ion transfer pre and postsynaptically. This causes uncontrolled central nervous system activity and death of insects and mites. Absorption of fipronil through the skin after spraying on hair and skin is practically zero.
Fipronil shows insecticidal activity against fleas and lice, and acaricidal activity against ticks as listed. No interactions or incompatibilities are known. Adverse reactions are rare and may include transient skin reactions, erythema, pruritus, alopecia, hypersalivation after licking, and exceptionally reversible neurological signs or vomiting.
Each ml contains 0.0025 g of fipronil (0.25% w/v). Excipients q.s. to 1.00 ml.
For dogs and cats: treatment and prevention of flea infestations (Ctenocephalides spp.) and tick infestations (Ixodes ricinus, Rhipicephalus sanguineus, and others). Also for treatment and control of biting lice (Trichodectes canis in dogs, Felicola subrostratus in cats).
Apply 3 to 6 ml per kg body weight (equivalent to 7.5 to 15 mg fipronil per kg, depending on hair length). For external use only, by spraying.
