ESPES is an antibacterial injectable suspension for use in pigs, sheep, cattle, horses, dogs, and cats. It treats conditions such as arthritis, pneumonia, bronchopneumonia, leptospirosis, mastitis, metritis, and skin abscesses. ESPES is used to treat bacterial infections such as arthritis, pneumonia, leptospirosis, mastitis, metritis, and skin abscesses in pigs, sheep, cattle, horses, dogs, and cats.
It works through two active ingredients: benzylpenicillin procaine, a beta-lactam antibiotic that disrupts bacterial cell wall synthesis, and dihydrostreptomycin, an aminoglycoside that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis.
Possible side effects include allergic or anaphylactic reactions in sensitive animals, lasting 2 to 4 hours. In pigs, stress may cause transient fever, vomiting, incoordination, tremors, and apathy. In white-coated horses with thin skin, skin plaques, bruising, local edema, and muscle pain may occur at the injection site.
