It treats Mycoplasma gallisepticum, Mycoplasma synoviae, Avibacterium paragallinarum, Pasteurella multocida, and Escherichia coli in chickens; Mycoplasma gallisepticum, Mycoplasma synoviae, Pasteurella multocida, and Escherichia coli in turkeys; and respiratory infections caused by Pasteurella multocida in rabbits.
Enrofloxacin exerts its bactericidal effect by interacting with the A subunit of bacterial DNA gyrase, causing irreversible degradation of chromosomal DNA and blocking replication, transcription, and recombination. This concentration-dependent mechanism also alters cell membrane permeability in stationary phase bacteria. Enrofloxacin shows relatively high oral bioavailability and extensive diffusion into body fluids and tissues, often reaching concentrations higher than plasma levels.
Metabolism varies by species, around 50-60%. Excretion occurs via bile and renal routes, with renal being predominant.
