Clindamycin inhibits bacterial protein synthesis for systemic infection control.
CLINDASEPTIN 75 mg capsules are an anti-infective for systemic use in dogs. The active substance clindamycin is a lincosamide antibiotic that treats infections caused by susceptible bacteria including Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp., Bacteroides spp., Fusobacterium spp., and Clostridium spp.
Clindamycin acts primarily as a bacteriostatic antibiotic. It binds reversibly to the 50S subunit of the bacterial ribosome, inhibiting protein synthesis and preventing peptide chain elongation. Most aerobic Gram-negative bacteria are resistant to clindamycin.
CLSI breakpoints for dogs in skin and soft tissue infections: susceptible at 0.5 µg/ml, intermediate at 1-2 µg/ml, resistant at 4 µg/ml (CLSI July 2013). Clindamycin is almost completely absorbed after oral administration, with peak serum concentrations reached about 1 hour after dosing. Maximum serum concentration (Cmax) is 3.3 µg/ml (non-fasting) to 5.0 µg/ml (fasting) at 10 mg/kg. The elimination half-life is approximately 4 hours. About 70% is excreted in feces and 30% in urine.
Each capsule contains clindamycin (as clindamycin hydrochloride) 75 mg.
For the treatment of infections in dogs caused by susceptible Gram-positive and anaerobic bacteria, including skin and soft tissue infections. Active against Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp., Bacteroides spp., Fusobacterium spp., and Clostridium spp.
