CLINDASEPTIN 75mg capsules are a systemic anti-infective for dogs. It treats infections caused by susceptible bacteria including Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp., Bacteroides spp., Fusobacterium spp., and Clostridium spp. It is indicated for skin and soft tissue infections.
Clindamycin is a bacteriostatic antibiotic from the lincosamide group. It inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding reversibly to the 50S ribosomal subunit, blocking peptide chain elongation. Most aerobic Gram-negative bacteria are resistant to clindamycin.
CLSI breakpoints for dogs in skin and soft tissue infections: susceptible at 0.5 µg/ml, intermediate at 1-2 µg/ml, and resistant at 4 µg/ml (CLSI July 2013). Cross-resistance exists between clindamycin and lincomycin, and is common with erythromycin and other macrolides.
