Fast-acting COX-2 inhibitor for chronic pain and perioperative inflammation in dogs.
Cimalgex is a veterinary nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) formulated to treat pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis and to control perioperative pain in dogs. Its active substance, cimicoxib, is a selective cyclooxygenase 2 (COX-2) inhibitor, blocking the enzyme responsible for inflammation and pain while preserving normal COX-1 functions.
Cimicoxib acts by selectively inhibiting COX-2, reducing prostaglandin production at sites of inflammation. This mechanism provides rapid analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects. Clinical results demonstrate its effectiveness in reducing pain and improving quality of life in dogs with osteoarthritis.
Cimalgex is indicated for chronic pain and inflammation from osteoarthritis and for perioperative pain control due to orthopedic or soft tissue surgery. It is available in 8 mg, 30 mg, and 80 mg strengths.
Each Cimalgex 8 mg masticable tablet contains cimicoxib 8 mg. Excipients include lactose monohydrate, povidone K25, crospovidone, sodium lauryl sulfate, macrogol 400, and pork liver powder.
Cimalgex is indicated for the relief of chronic pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis in dogs. It is also indicated for the control of perioperative pain due to orthopedic or soft tissue surgery.
Oral administration. For osteoarthritis: 2 mg/kg once daily for up to 6 months. For perioperative pain: administer a dose 2 hours before surgery, followed by 3 to 7 days of treatment as directed by the veterinarian. Tablets can be given with or without food and may be divided as needed.
