Immunosuppressive treatment for chronic atopic and allergic dermatitis in cats and dogs.
Atopica 100 mg/ml Oral Solution treats chronic atopic dermatitis in dogs and chronic allergic dermatitis in cats. It contains cyclosporine, an immunosuppressant that controls clinical signs of allergic skin disease.
The active substance cyclosporine inhibits T-cell activation and reduces inflammatory cytokine release. This targets the underlying immune response causing dermatitis.
Clinical improvement typically occurs within 4 to 8 weeks in cats and within 4 weeks in dogs. Dosing is adjusted based on response, with maintenance therapy every other day or less frequently.
Each ml contains 100 mg cyclosporine as the active substance. Excipients include all-rac-alpha-tocopherol (E 307), anhydrous ethanol (E 1510), and propylene glycol (E 1520).
For cats: symptomatic treatment of chronic allergic dermatitis. For dogs: treatment of clinical manifestations of chronic atopic dermatitis.
Cats: initial dose 7 mg/kg (0.07 ml/kg) daily until clinical improvement (4-8 weeks), then reduce to every other day or every 3-4 days. Mix with a small amount of food after fasting or administer directly into the mouth. Dogs: initial dose 5 mg/kg (0.05 ml/kg) daily until improvement (usually within 4 weeks), then reduce to every other day. Administer orally at least 2 hours before or after meals, directly into the throat.
