Reduces blood pressure and heart workload in dogs with congestive heart failure.
ARIXIL VET is indicated for the treatment of congestive heart failure in dogs. It contains benazepril hydrochloride, a prodrug that is hydrolyzed in vivo to its active metabolite, benazeprilat. Benazeprilat is a highly potent selective inhibitor of the angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE).
The drug blocks arterial and venous vasoconstriction, sodium and water retention by the kidneys, and remodeling effects including pathological cardiac hypertrophy and degenerative renal changes. It causes long term inhibition of plasma ACE activity, with over 95% inhibition at peak effect and significant activity persisting 24 hours after administration.
In dogs with congestive heart failure, ARIXIL VET reduces blood pressure and cardiac volume load. Clinical trials demonstrated efficacy in managing the condition.
Each tablet contains 20 mg benazepril hydrochloride (equivalent to 18.42 mg benazepril).
