ARIXIL VET 20mg is indicated for the treatment of congestive heart failure in dogs. It contains benazepril hydrochloride, a prodrug that is hydrolyzed in vivo to its active metabolite benazeprilat.
Benazeprilat is a highly potent selective inhibitor of the angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE). It blocks arterial and venous vasoconstriction, sodium and water retention by the kidneys, and remodeling effects including pathological cardiac hypertrophy and degenerative renal changes.
The veterinary medicinal product causes long term inhibition of plasma ACE activity, producing over 95% inhibition at maximal effect. Significant activity, over 80% in dogs, persists 24 hours after administration.
Each film coated tablet contains 20 mg benazepril hydrochloride, equivalent to 18.42 mg benazepril.
Dogs: Treatment of congestive heart failure. Do not use in cases of hypersensitivity to the active substance or any excipient, decreased cardiac output due to aortic or pulmonic stenosis, hypotension, hypovolemia, hyponatremia, acute renal failure, pregnancy, or lactation.
