It also treats urogenital tract infections such as pyelonephritis, lower urinary tract infections, endometritis, and vaginitis caused by Escherichia coli, Proteus spp., Streptococcus canis, and Gram positive cocci. Additionally, it treats mastitis caused by Gram positive cocci and Escherichia coli, and local skin infections caused by Streptococcus spp.
Amoxicillin is a broad spectrum penicillin antibiotic that works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to bacterial death. It is effective against Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria.
The recommended dose is 10 mg of amoxicillin per kg of body weight, administered twice daily for a minimum of 5 consecutive days. Most cases respond within 5 to 7 days of therapy.
