AMOXIBACTIN contains amoxicillin, a broad spectrum penicillin antibiotic. It treats primary and secondary respiratory infections including rhinitis caused by Pasteurella spp. and Streptococcus spp., and bronchopneumonia caused by Pasteurella spp., Escherichia coli, and Gram positive cocci. It also treats urogenital infections such as pyelonephritis, lower urinary tract infections, endometritis, and vaginitis caused by Escherichia coli, Proteus spp., Streptococcus canis, and Gram positive cocci. For skin infections, it targets Streptococcus spp.
Amoxicillin works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to bacterial death. The recommended dose is 10 mg per kg body weight twice daily for at least 5 consecutive days. Most cases respond within 5 to 7 days. If no improvement is seen, reevaluate the diagnosis. Chronic or resistant cases may require a longer course.
Do not use in animals with hypersensitivity to penicillins or other beta lactams. Do not administer to gerbils, guinea pigs, hamsters, rabbits, or chinchillas. Do not use in animals with severe renal dysfunction accompanied by anuria or oliguria. Chloramphenicol, macrolides, sulfonamides, and tetracyclines may inhibit the antibacterial effect of penicillins. Penicillins may increase the effect of aminoglycosides.
