It treats and prevents infestations by fleas (Ctenocephalides felis), ear mites (Otodectes cynotis), and circulating microfilariae (Dirofilaria immitis). It also prevents heartworm (Dirofilaria immitis L3/L4 larvae), subcutaneous dirofilariosis (Dirofilaria repens L3), spirocercosis (Spirocerca lupi), and angiostrongylosis (Angiostrongylus vasorum L4 and immature adults). It reduces circulating microfilariae of Dirofilaria repens and treats gastrointestinal nematodes (Toxocara canis, Ancylostoma caninum, Uncinaria stenocephala, Toxascaris leonina, Trichuris vulpis), chewing lice (Trichodectes canis), sarcoptic mange (Sarcoptes scabiei var. canis), demodicosis (Demodex canis), and infections by Angiostrongylus vasorum and Crenosoma vulpis. It also provides strategic treatment of flea allergy dermatitis (FAD).
The mechanism of action involves two active ingredients. Imidacloprid, a chloronicotinyl ectoparasiticide, kills flea larvae and adult fleas with minimal mammalian activity and distributes rapidly over the skin within the first day. Moxidectin, a milbemycin macrocyclic lactone, acts against internal and external parasites, including Dirofilaria immitis larvae (L3, L4) and gastrointestinal nematodes. It is absorbed through the skin and reaches peak plasma concentrations in dogs approximately 4 to 9 days after application, then is slowly eliminated from plasma.
