ADVOCATE is a spot-on solution for dogs weighing 10 to 25 kg. It treats and prevents infestations by fleas (Ctenocephalides felis), ear mites (Otodectes cynotis), and circulating microfilariae (Dirofilaria immitis). It also treats gastrointestinal nematodes including Toxocara canis, Ancylostoma caninum, Uncinaria stenocephala, Toxascaris leonina, and Trichuris vulpis. Additionally, it treats chewing lice (Trichodectes canis), sarcoptic mange (Sarcoptes scabiei), demodicosis (Demodex canis), and lungworm infections (Angiostrongylus vasorum, Crenosoma vulpis). It provides strategic treatment of flea allergy dermatitis (FAD).
Imidacloprid (10%) is a chloronicotinyl ectoparasiticide active against adult fleas and larval stages. It distributes rapidly over the skin within the first day after application. Moxidectin (2.5%) is a milbemycin macrolide lactone active against many internal and external parasites, including larval stages L3 and L4 of Dirofilaria immitis and gastrointestinal nematodes. Moxidectin is absorbed through the skin and reaches peak plasma concentrations in dogs approximately 4 to 9 days after application. It is eliminated slowly from plasma.
Do not use in puppies under 7 weeks of age or in dogs hypersensitive to active substances or excipients. Do not use in canaries. During treatment, do not administer any other macrolide lactone antiparasitic. Rare side effects include transient pruritus, greasy hair, erythema, vomiting, and local hypersensitivity reactions. If the dog licks the application site, transient neurological signs may occur rarely.
