ADVOCATE is a topical spot-on solution for dogs weighing up to 4 kg. It treats and prevents flea infestations (Ctenocephalides felis), ear mites (Otodectes cynotis), and circulating microfilariae (Dirofilaria immitis). It also treats gastrointestinal nematodes including Toxocara canis, Ancylostoma caninum, and Trichuris vulpis, as well as sarcoptic mange (Sarcoptes scabiei), demodicosis (Demodex canis), and chewing lice (Trichodectes canis).
The active ingredients are imidacloprid and moxidectin. Imidacloprid is a chloronicotinyl ectoparasiticide that kills adult fleas and larval stages. It spreads rapidly over the skin within 24 hours. Moxidectin is a macrocyclic lactone that acts against internal and external parasites, including larval stages L3 and L4 of Dirofilaria immitis and gastrointestinal nematodes. It is absorbed through the skin and reaches peak plasma concentrations in dogs within 4 to 9 days.
Efficacy data from the description show that ADVOCATE reduces circulating microfilariae (Dirofilaria repens) and treats infections by Angiostrongylus vasorum and Crenosoma vulpis. It also provides strategic treatment for flea allergy dermatitis (FAD). Do not use with other macrocyclic lactone antiparasitics during treatment.
